Description:

Provides low-cost job training for unemployed or under-employed custodial parents from the counties of Shelby, Fayette, Lauderdale and Tipton at several sites in the area sponsored by Memphis Bioworks Foundation. Low-cost training will be available for the following occupations: advanced manufacturing, Information Technology and Health Care careers. Training partners include Concorde Career College, Lab Four, TCAT Memphis, TCAT Whiteville, SW TN Community College, NW TN Workforce Board and WIN (Workforce Investment Network). Program includes classroom training and work-based and on-the-job training in some cases. Memphis Bioworks will be holding information sessions each Tuesday at 10:00 am at 20 S. Dudley Street, First Floor, where you can learn more about the training and pick up an application. This training is made possible by a grant from the Department of Labor. Parking is free in the adjacent parking garage at Union Avenue and Dudley Street.

Information sessions for Strengthening Families Job Training: Tuesdays at 10:00 am at 20 S Dudley St, Memphis 38103 (between Madison and Union; take elevator to first floor; free parking in the garage adjacent to the building)

Intake Process:

Call or email to confirm next orientation session or for information; must attend information sessions to apply. Applicants must provide proof of residency, age, custodial parent status, employment and income status, selective service registration (if male), education and veteran status (if applicable)

Program Fees:

Most of the cost of training is funded through grant from US Department of Labor and covers most of the participant's out of pocket cost, but the total cost for training depends on type of training path selected

Eligibility:

Unemployed or Underemployed men and women 18 and older who are custodial parents and who live in Fayette, Lauderdale, Tipton or Shelby County. Must have a high school diploma/GED, be eligible to work in the US, able to pass pre-training assessments, be drug-free and medically fit. If currently employed, must be earning less than $15.00/hour
