Description:

SHFS is a shelter for married couples and single parent families with children 18 years of age or younger. SHFS offers job readiness, financial literacy, educational tutoring, assistance in locating permanent housing, individual/group therapy sessions for parents and children and case management. SHFS may also provides access to lacking necessities such as personal care items, food, and clothing.

Eligibility:

Married couples and single parent families with children up to 18 years of age. Parents of the families must be drug and alcohol free, in an emergency situation, and willing to obtain employment.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Volunteer opportunities are listed below:

Front Desk Volunteer
Assist Safe Haven during the weekday by answering the phone, helping with administrative and special project-driven duties as well as accepting donations through our intake process. Hours are flexible, and we will work with your schedule!

Overnight Volunteers
Stay overnight (5:45 pm-6:00 am) in a private volunteer guest room
Oversee the shelter, answer phones, and be a point of contact for the residents

Dinner Volunteers
1-7 volunteers prepare and serve a family meal for 12-25 Safe Haven residents
Dinner is served at 6:00 pm and volunteers visit with residents after serving the food

Weekend Volunteers
Oversee the shelter in the absence of staff, accept donations and answer phones
Work one of two shifts: 10:00am-2:00 pm or 2:00pm-6:00 pm

Group Volunteers
Organizations/church groups/friends help with shelter projects.

Arts Program/Childcare Volunteer
Assist leaders in various projects to encourage families to bond while participating in artistic experiences
Volunteers lead arts, drama, or music projects for families:
Monday evenings: 6:30-8:00pm
Tuesday evenings: 6:30-8:00 pm

Homework/Tutoring Volunteers
Help with reading, homework, or special education needs after school (3:30-5:30 pm)

Enrichment Volunteers
Help our residents stay in shape with sports activities such as baseball, basketball, workout routines, etc., and assist them in relaxing with stress relief activities such as Yoga, massage therapy, cosmetology and other relaxing exercises.

Special Event Volunteers
Get involved with SHFS special events such as Hike for the Homeless, Dancing for Safe Haven, and more!
