Disaster Relief, training in disaster response and preparedness: 24/7-365 days a year, disaster volunteers respond to and give basic assistance (food, shelter and clothing) to victims of single family fires or other disasters that affect individuals. In the event of a major disaster or large scale emergency that displaces families from their homes, shelters are opened where victims meet with Red Cross caseworkers. After assessing the needs of the victim, Red Cross may provide assistance with: food, shelter, clothing, rent, replacing prescription medications, funeral expenses, counseling, and act as a referral service to help with additional recovery needs.
